Caroline Layt Weight ThrowU.S. machine is leading with 240 medals – 105 gold, 78 silver and 57 bronze. Canada is close behind at 210 medals, including 70 gold, 76 silver and 64 bronze. Germany (38 gold, 25 silver, 31 bronze, 94 total), Australia (18 gold, 13 silver, 16 bronze, 47 total) and Great Britain (16 gold, 24 silver, 13 bronze, 53 total) round out the top five.

The Aussies were glad to see teammate Heather Carr win her second gold medal of the meet when she captured the W60 division of the 10K Race Walk on Friday. Carr crossed the finish line with a time of 56 minutes 17.1 seconds. Earlier this week she won the W60 3,000m Race Walk in a world-record time of 15:54.75. After Friday’s race, Carr went directly to the Kamloops Airport to begin the return trip home to Melbourne— a sad journey, as she is going home for the funeral of her mother, who died on Feb. 25, the eve of Carr’s trip to Kamloops.

Silvers to Marj Allison & Kathryn Heagney in the 200m, Colin McCurry & Radovan Leovic in the 800m.
Bronzes to Julie Brims & Andrew Wilcox in the 200m, Kathryn Heagney in the 800m & Don Chambers in the shot put.

The result for Heather Carr is a also a new World Record of 15:54.75.

I was really pleased with my 5 jumps and no fouls. I didn’t get as much extension as I should have but jumped further than in the pentathlon the other day so was happy. Missed 1 jump to run 200m heat – the first 150 felt awesome, easiest 200 I ever run.

Kamloops Competition Has Begun

Marie Kay has added a gold medal with world record in the W50 pentathlon to the honour of carrying the Australian flag at the opening ceremony of the World Masters Indoors 2010 in Kamloops, Canada. Further details on the ANSW site.
In other day 1 highlights, gold to Marj Allison in W65 pentathlon, silver for Jan Banens in W65 Javelin and bronze for Bob Banens in M60 discus.

Oceania Championships 2010

The 15th Oceania Association Masters Athletics Championships are to be held in Tahiti, from July 3rd to 10th, 2010. An entry form is available for download. Entries close June 1st.
A draft programme and information regarding the race walking events at the champioships is available.
