Update: Greg Champion has been announced as the host for the AMA Awards Dinner AMA to be held, Sunday April 8th. Tickets can be purchased as part of your championship entry.

Accommodation

For those who have yet to organise accommodation, VMA has some special prices and deals with Accor.

Victorian Masters Athletics is inviting interstate visitors who would like to billet with V.M.A. members for the A.M.A. Championships over Easter 2012 to contact Russ Dickenson on dicko@iinet.net.au. This is a pilot scheme and we will do our best to house you with a local athlete, hopefully someone who will be competing in similar events. We can’t promise to fill all requests, but we will do our best to do so.

Entry

Time to start thinking about entries for the 2012 Australian Masters Athletics Championships to be held April 6-9, at State Athletics Centre,Lakeside Oval, Albert Park, Melbourne. Attached is the paper entry form which may be used. On line entry is also now available.

WMA 2013 Stadia Championships Date Change

WMA Stadia Championships in Porto Alegre, Brazil have been changed with the new dates being 15 to 27 October 2013. The Opening ceremony will take place on the first date with competition commencing on 16 October.

The change of dates had been requested by the LOC after an announcement that the Government had agreed to fund a complete renewal of the athletics and community facility known as CETE. Government officials met with WMA President Perkins and Secretary Winston Thomas in November to detail their plans and at that time confirmed that the full cost of the project had been approved so that work could proceed.

The Oceania 2012 Schedule and Event List are available for the Oceania Masters Athletics Championships to be held in New Zealand at Tauranga Domain – 5th to 12th February 2012.

WMA Indoors 2012 Entry

Online entries for WMA Indoors 2012 close on February 12th, 2012.

Paper entries and validation papers need to be Judy Cooper ASAP.

Please find attached the WMA 2012 Foreign Athletes entry details, and the athlete validation form for the WMA Indoors 2012 to be held in Jyväskylä, Finland form April 3 to 8.

Ron Robertson and Lyn Ventris Masters Athletes of 2011

I am pleased to announce that the athletes nominated by OMA, Ron Robertson of New Zealand and Lyn Ventris of Australia have been announced by WMA as the winners of these prestigious awards for 2011. Congratulations to them both they are very worthy winners.

The IAAF Gala Dinner will be held in Monaco in November and Ron and Lyn will be invited to attend and receive their awards.

As mentioned in an earlier announcement there have been many outstanding achievements by Oceania region athletes in the past year.

Sacramento Medals Update

From Senior Director of Events, the latest update on outstanding medals from the WMA Championships is:

“We will be sending the medals to each individual athlete once we receive the shipment. Everything is already labeled and ready to go on our end….we just need the medals!”

Perth to host 2016 WMA Championship

Perth has added another international event to its future sporting calendar after being awarded the 2016 World Masters Athletics Championships. Perth was named the host city of the 2016 championships following a vote by the World Masters Athletics General Assembly in Sacramento, USA.

The 2016 championships will be a major event for Perth and Western Australia and is expected to attract thousands of athletes and spectators. Perth had bid for the 2015 championships however following changes to the World Masters Athletics constitution two championships were up for grabs with Western Australia winning the 2016 event. Lyon, France will host the 2015 event.

The changes mean that following the 2015 event the championships will be held every even numbered year, starting with 2016, instead of the current odd-year schedule.

The result is a testament to the hard work of the bid committee, which submitted a top-class presentation to the assembly. The bid process has been a collaborative effort between Eventscorp, Masters Athletics Australia, Masters Athletics Western Australia, Athletics Western Australia, Athletics Australia, the Department of Sport and Recreation and VenuesWest.
