David has been a founder and continual member of Veterans/Masters Athletics WA since 1974. Over the years he has been an outstanding competitor in all events from 100m to marathons, an official, coach, President of V/MAWA and Convenor of state and national championships. His service has been recognised by his Life membership of both MAWA and Athletics Western Australia.  
David has set numerous World, National and State records many of which are long standing. He is the recipient of many prestigious awards including the AMA most outstanding individual performance, Most outstanding male athlete, Middle distance Award and the Brian Foley Trophy for best age graded performance at National Championships. At the 2013 WMA Championships Porte Alegre he was selected to be the Australian Flag Bearer.

Heather Carr inducted 2015

 
“Strives to improve, inspire and encourage.”
 
Heather started race walking in 1987, her excellence in this discipline resulted in a number of National and a World record within her first two years of racing. As she has progressed through the age groups Heather has continued her record breaking success.
In recognition of her achievements Heather had the honour of being Australian flag bearer at the 1997 Durban and 2013 Porto Alegre World Veterans/ Masters Championships.  Heather’s dedication to race walking has also seen her fulfil many administrative roles within the Victorian Race Walking fraternity.   Heather is a fierce competitor who continually strives to improve while inspiring and encouraging her fellow walkers from the young beginners to her peers.

“A campaigner and pioneer for women in Masters Athletics”.

Heathers involvement in athletics has extended her entire lifetime. She campaigned at both state and national level for the inclusion of women into the originally male  dominated sport of Veterans/Masters athletics. She was the first female member of the Queensland Veterans Athletic Club and President of the Australian Veterans Athletic Association.

Heather commenced her athletic career as a 400m/800m runner but soon ventured into most other events. Her greatest prowess is in all the throws events where she has set many Australian records and broken World records. 

In recognition of her athletic abilities and service to athletics Heather has been awarded the AAVAC Most Outstanding Female athlete 1998, AMA Throws award 2009, AMA Administrator/Official of the Year 2009 and Life Memberships of Queensland Women’s Athletics and Queensland Veterans/Masters Athletics, along with many community based awards.

Wally  Sheppard inducted 2015  – Administrator

Biography 

“He put the athletes and Association before his own welfare”
 Wally was a driving force in the establishment of the Veteran Athletics movement in Australia at both National and State levels. He held the position of National Secretary from 1971 to 1986. He played a major role in organising and managing the first Australian team to compete in the first World Veterans/Masters Championships in 1975. From 1975 to 1985 he was team manager for Australian athletes competing in the World Championships. In 1973, Wally helped organise the first official National Veterans Athletics Championships and subsequently helped with the running of the Oceania Championships in Fiji in the early 1980’s. 

As a member of the Oceania grouping of Veterans athletes and was instrumental in helping the development of Veterans Athletics in the Pacific region. 

He was an Oceania delegate to the World Masters Committee from 1975 to 1986 and also held the position of Executive Vice President of the World Association of Veterans Athletics.  Wally played a major administrative role in the World, Regional, National and State development of Veterans/Masters Athletics
